Deepavali/Diwali Wishes & Messages 🪔
The most-loved festival, Deepavali/Diwali is just right around the corner! From lights, delicious sweets and gifts, the festival is all about spreading cheer. Deepavali or Diwali (literally translated as "a row of lights"; also known as the Festival of Lights), is a festival celebrated by Hindus worldwide for the triumph of good over evil as well as light over darkness. The festival falls on the 14th day of the dark fortnight in the Tamil month of Aipasi and so its date on the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year.
Hindu families would transform their homes into beacons of light usually by decorating the entrance of their homes with coloured fine powder or sand named Kolam or Rangoli, exchange gifts, share feasts, play with firecrackers, and perform pooja (prayers). Over the centuries, Diwali has become a national festival that's also enjoyed by non-Hindu communities. For instance, in Jainism, Diwali marks the nirvana, or spiritual awakening, of Lord Mahavira on October 15, 527 B.C.; in Sikhism, it honors the day that Guru Hargobind Ji, the Sixth Sikh Guru, was freed from imprisonment. Buddhists in India celebrate Diwali as well.1
